BETH GIBBS

BETH GIBBS

Speaker

“When women dress for themselves, that’s where creativity and originality really show.” Those are the words of designer and stylist Beth Gibbs, and this philosophy strongly explains her style the point of view of her line, Bephie. As a Los Angeles native (and co-owner and Creative Director of streetwear mecca Union), Beth has long been inspired the black experience of Southern California, but her eye has been deeply influenced by art as well. Think Slauson swap meets and Stella Jean prints in conversation with Simone Leigh’s sculptures and Genevieve Gaignard’s photographs.

Beth’s work has a distinctly feminist approach, and she thinks first of creating clothing for Black women. Moreover, her pieces are gender-neutral and meant to convey freedom of thought and freedom of movement, not just in one’s own body, but across a range of spaces. Each garment and accessory is made with the utmost quality, care, and attention to detail, in unique silhouettes and comfortable shapes. And like the world of streetwear that Beth comes from, Bephie is rooted in community—the newest collection features graphics by Ariel Roman and Jamie Benson, and was produced by Everybody World.
